Emilee Williams Art

Today I started painting a picture of the poppies that come up in my backyard every year. They are my favorite flowers and they should be blooming in the backyard soon! The picture I am painting from is a few years old. I've wanted to paint them for a long time and now I am finally doing it. This painting is going to be quite a bit smaller than the lilies I just finished, so it shouldn't take me nearly as long. It definitely won't take me four years! The lilies were a half sheet of watercolor paper (about 15 in. x 22 in.) and the poppies are 11 inches x 15 inches. I have been working on this painting on and off (more off than on) for about four years now and I am excited to finally be finished. There are a few things that I wish I could have done better but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The photograph I worked from: The finished product:

In my last blog post I posted a picutre of the painting I am currently working on. I like to think that those flowers are Easter lilies. So, since today is Easter, I thought it would be appropriate if I posted picutres of the progression of this painting starting from where I got the idea to do this to where it is today:

I love to paint. I started painting as a sophomore in high school and didn't stop until I graduated. Once I started college, I was really too busy to continue painting the way I did in high school. In college, I took art classes that introduced me to new mediums and ideas, but I still didn't have time for my first love: watercolor. I would love to start painting again. So, my hope with this blog is that it will force me to make time to paint more often and I would love to share my work with anyone who is interested.
