Changes

I recently graduated college and I was fortunate enough to get a job in my field of study: aviation. One unfortunate thing that goes along with starting a new job is having to leave a current job, which is what I had to do today. I had worked at my current job for four and a half years. They were good to me, especially with working around my school schedule. I made good friends along the way, too. It was comfortable to go to work there every day. So, it wasn't easy to leave, which is why I kept telling myself this all day:

I did this while I was at work today, between calls. It was comforting to read this while people kept coming to my desk to say goodbye.

  1. After four and half years I am sure it was hard to say goodbye. We are so happy for you and what lies ahead for you in your new job!

  2. A quote I saw in an e-mail the other day comes to mind "Life begins at the end of our comfort zone". It's a constant in life and for good reason! We need to be tried and tested to grow - that's all there is to it! It's not always easy, but the rewards are usually worth a little discomfort. I am so proud of you and all that you have accomplished! You'll do great at your new job but I sympathize with you on leaving the old one. Hang in there!

Modern Floral Watercolor 5

I got a new handmade watercolor pallet from Designs by Rachel Beth on Etsy and I couldn't wait to try it. I'm pretty excited about how this one turned out-- especially the yellow rose shape. That one didn't turn out so great the last time I tried it. I think using a smaller brush helped.

White Poinsettia

I love painting poinsettias. It's a rather simple flower and the layers and shadows make it a lot of fun to paint. I have painted a few red poinsettias, but never any white. I've always been intimidated by the white ones-- until now! It turns out they're not that hard to paint at all. I especially had fun with different tones of white in this one.

Painting With Straws

I found this  link to an awesome blog on Pinterest: Grow Creative . She has lots of fun ideas for watercolors and I am going to try a few. One of them was blowing paint with straws. I remember doing this is elementary school, but forgot all about it until I saw it on Pinterest (where I found her blog). Of course I had to try it again. Here are the results: Fun! I'll definitely be doing this again when I get bored and don't know what to paint. I would suggest taking breaks often while doing this...I definitely got a little light-headed. Blowing through a straw is harder than you might think... Toby was very interested in what I was doing when I was working on these...
