Squares for a Not-So-Square Friend

I've been sitting on this painting for long enough. I've decided that it's just time to be done.

A friend of mine asked me to paint something with squares. We had discussed a color palette that I strayed from. I didn't know that he had his heart set on those specific colors. When I showed him this painting, he said he liked it but didn't like all the colors. So, I'll be doing this again...in the RIGHT colors.

I worked on this a while ago and I've been telling myself that I just want to put one or two more layers on it, but that just wasn't happening.

I'm not sure what I'll do with this one. I'm thinking it may be fun to cut out my favorite parts and frame them in a series of three or four...

  1. I love the look of the color palette. Don't cut it out. Frame it. The overall look of the whole painting is fabulous.

Modern Floral Watercolor 2

This is my second attempt at a modern floral watercolor with one of the pallets from my last post. I think the colors and composition are better, but I don't love the shapes of the flowers. Also, I wasn't sure what to do in the middle of the red flowers, so I just left them empty...

It is my biggest accomplishment thus far and I wanted to write down my thoughts and feelings, while I still have them. I graduated from college yesterday. I spent the last five years attending Westminster College and yesterday was a day that I wasn't sure would ever come. I majored in Aviation: Flight Operations and spent much of my time at the airport, flying airplanes. I haven't flown in a while but I think I ended up with about 350 hours. I earned my private, instrument, commercial, and multi-engine ratings. Toward the end of my education, I decided that flying probably isn't for me. This change of heart was a result of many things, but most of all because my eyes were opened to all the other opportunities in the aviation industry. There is a place for me out there, somewhere. I just need to find it. I was originally pursuing an art minor, which is why it took me...

Modern Floral Watercolor 5

I got a new handmade watercolor pallet from Designs by Rachel Beth on Etsy and I couldn't wait to try it. I'm pretty excited about how this one turned out-- especially the yellow rose shape. That one didn't turn out so great the last time I tried it. I think using a smaller brush helped.
